Either they must admit that all their calculations were wrong and their figures are unable to describe the heavens, or else they must reveal that the order of the gods is reflected exactly in the city of monsters.
Note
The astronomers were summoned to found Perinthia: they fixed the place and the day by the position of the stars, drew the streets along the orbits of the planets, opened the gates where the sun rises at the solstices, so that the city would mirror the harmony of the firmament. But those born in Perinthia grow up crippled, deformed. The astronomers must choose.
In the scene the plan is drawn in gold on the ground and in blue lines in the sky, orbits and rays with their planets. The city built on the plan slowly buckles: the houses lean, grow crooked, the rings warp.
Touch the ground to have the astronomers recalculate: the plan lights up, and it is the sky that bends until it agrees with the city. Then both relax again into perfect geometry, and it all begins anew.
